Biography:
Hi everyone, my name is Gemma Snowball. I've been hairdressing since I can remember, and this is a bit about me, about why I love what I do, and about the experience I have within the industry.
I recently rented a chair in a friend's Salon called Meraki in Howden le wear, then decided to branch out on my own again and I've opened a little salon at home in my garden, its beautiful, floral, relaxed and cosy.
After running my own salon for many years, I love that I can now just concentrate on what I love...hair! without the mountains of paperwork and stress of running a business.
I recently attended some new hair extension training courses and I am now qualified in LA weave extensions. I carry out most hairdressing services, I love Cutting and colouring hair, I especially love talking with people about different options of styles they may suit and giving people something new, making people feel like a million dollars when they leave. I also love doing special occasions and Wedding hair.
I started my career from leaving school, I was always creative and always had I keen interest in hair and beauty.
I joined Saks in Northallerton as an apprentice and carried out my first year of training, then the opportunity arose to join a new salon opening up called Elite.
I continued my training at elite then a year later in 1999 I qualified as a stylist. I worked within the salon and continued training in all the newest trends and techniques. I entered numerous competitions and came 1st place in many over the years.
I love creative work and carrying out photoshoots, I have also been involved in creating styles and makeup for TV, Music video's and for some top magazine companies.
In 2001 I decided I would love to travel, not wanting to leave hairdressing I applied for a contract working in salons on cruises ships. I spent the next year travelling from Dover to Denmark, New york to Bermuda and everywhere inbetween, I loved the fact I could do the job I loved, see the world, and I got paid for it.
Once my contract ended I returned back home to Elite hair & Beauty, I worked as a Senior stylist then progressed to Manager, after many more years I decided I would love to venture out on my own so in 2009 I started up my own salon called The Gallery, I worked their as a stylist and built a great team, then in 2011 the opportunity came for me to expand my business and I joined into partnership with the directors of Elite, taking the team from The Gallery and making a supersized team of 28.
Elite won many awards and competitions and became one of the most prestigious salons around. I loved what I did, then years later I decided to start a family.
I now have a little girl who is the best thing that has ever happened to me, it became difficult for me trying to run a business and be a Mum so last year I stepped away from the salon and now I have my own little Haven in the garden so I can concentrate on doing hairdressing and spend more quality time with family.
