With more than 28 years of experience in the hair industry, Sarah Yorke, founder of Stylebook Directory, has built a career that spans almost every corner of the profession.
Beginning as a trainee hairdresser, Sarah worked her way through a variety of roles, from salon management and salon ownership to freelance styling, education and session styling for TV and theatre. This breadth of experience has given her a unique understanding of the industry from both a professional and client perspective.
Originally from the North East, Sarah later moved to Manchester, where the idea for Stylebook Directory was born.
New to the city and without friends or family nearby to recommend a trusted stylist, Sarah found herself facing a surprisingly difficult challenge: how do you find the right hair professional when you have no idea where to start?
Searching online provided plenty of hairstyle inspiration, but there was no simple way to discover who had actually created the looks she loved or find someone locally whose work matched her style.
After taking a chance on a stylist and ending up with a haircut she hated, Sarah recognised an opportunity to create something better.
That experience became the starting point for Stylebook Directory.
